A hike through the woods of Admiralty Island, southwest of Juneau, tracking bears and observing them from a safe distance. Getting to see brown bears in their natural habitat, fairly close, is not something that everyone will get to do in their lifetime. You don’t truly realize how amazing bears are until you can see them in person, fishing in the streams, grazing in the grass, playing with their cubs, and just being wild animals.

Background
Admiralty Island is 15 miles southwest of Juneau and available by float plane from Juneau.

More About This Experience

This trip starts with a float-plane ride, then a kayak to get to the actual bear viewing island. I went to Pack Creek out of Juneau, but there are plenty of other places for this tour throughout Alaska.
