Caving in Guatemala

From Coban, you can select from two full day adventures to visit Guatemala’s caves. One visits the jungle-surrounded Lagunas de Sepalau and the caves of Bombilpek, of great importance for todays and yesterday’s Mayan rituals. Or visit first the caves of de Candelaria and beautiful Rio Subterraneo. The caves of de Candelaria extend 33km and recognized for their size, beauty, and gigantic stalagmites. These caves are also a centre of Mayan pilgrimage.

Background

At Bombil Pek, the archaeological site is in the outside area and contains a small ceremonial centre, a plaza and a ball court (Part of la puerta al Mundo Maya).
