Horsehoe Bay's Pink Sand Beach
Bermuda
There are seven beaches in the world reputedly with pink sand, and perhaps one of the most well-known is the beach at Bermuda’s Horseshoe Bay, in Southampton parish on the island’s southern coast.
Background
Off Bermuda, there are tiny red organisms (Foraminifera) that grow beneath the coral reefs. When they die, they fall mix in the ocean with coral and shells resulting in the sand turning pink when this crushed mixture washes onto the beach.
