Rani-ki-Vav (the Queen's Stepwell)
Patan, India
Patan’s stepwell is the only one that’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stepwells were built to store water, and Patan’s Rani-ki-Vav (the Queen’s Stepwell), next to the Saraswati River, is an intricately carved series of four buildings that are seven floors high, built in the Maru-Gurjara architectural style in the 11th century.
