Four Seasons Hualalai, Hawaii
Lots of construction currently going on but they try to keep it so guests are not disturbed. Most will be done by holiday season. Hualalai has a totally different feel from Four Seasons Wailea, Maui, or the two properties on Lanai. I loved this hotel. I never understood the loyal following until I stayed here. The hotel is designed around 4 pools – semi circles with pools in the center, and the ocean just beyond. From left to right:
Palm Grove – smallest pool, lots of palms, and a natural lagoon. Quiet.
Beach Tree – adult pool – they just added new decking. Jacuzzi sits right at the end closest to the ocean. Cabanas along both sides (no charge). Quiet pool. Feels like an infinity pool as the edge spills into a narrow opening – water always appears flat and smooth. Dark blue tiles. The restaurant is being worked on so is operating beside the main restaurant. Serene and inviting.
Sea Shell – largest pool – for families. Light blue, lots of inviting areas to swim or relax, and a baby pool nearby.
Kings Pond – black lava salt water pool stocked with fish and rays. You can swim with them during certain hours. (This section has lots of construction right now on the bungalows.)
Accommodations are lovely. Rooms downstairs – walk right out onto the grass. Upstairs rooms have views. Suites are gorgeous – some with outdoor showers.
The ocean can be wild here – surf rolling in over lava rocks and reef. The beach is great to walk, sit on the chaise lounges facing the water, but for swimming it’s rough and mostly rocky. There is a section that has been created which is protected enough to swim. I swam in it along with 6 green sea turtles! I am an ocean person so thought I wouldn’t like this hotels as much as I did – but the ambience, atmosphere and service won me over!
There is another swimming beach about.5 a mile away – Four Seasons will take guests there. You can walk there along the path between the ocean and the golf course. (Hualalai has an amazing golf course and offers complimentary clinics.
Spa is being redone. (services are in a temporary location.) If you are ready to plan your Hawaii vacation, contact us.
