Jamaica Honeymoon at Secrets Wild Orchid Resort
Last October I had the opportunity to celebrate a Jamaica honeymoon at Secrets Wild Orchid Resort. What an incredible experience we had. From the time we arrived, we were treated like royalty. We were greeted with cold towels, Jamaica Rum punch (yummy) and then escorted to the air conditioned lobby for our check-in. The check-in was flawless.
We were upgraded to the Preferred Club with an oceanfront junior suite. The Preferred Club offers many exclusive amenities, including upgraded bathroom and mini-bar amenities, free Wi-Fi throughout the resort, the Preferred Club lounge with self-serve bar, where light breakfast & heavy appetizers are available. There’s a private pool only for Preferred Club guests.
Secrets Wild Orchid and Secrets St. James are located next door to each other. Guests have access to both resorts. However I prefer the Secrets Wild Orchid, as this resort offers the most for guests. Most of the restaurants, entertainment and bars are located here. Both resorts offer huge swimming pools with swim-up bars, and beautiful white sandy beaches. There is a large array of water activities including snorkeling, sailboats, windsurfing and kayaks which are all included as part of your all inclusive package. There is also an array of land activities; a small casino, ping pong, darts, pool tables, board games, basketball, volleyball, archery, bike tours, tennis, yoga, disco and nightly entertainment with shows, music and more. Never a dull moment.
There are ten different dining options offering a large variety of different cuisines such as Asian, French, Italian, Mexican, Seafood and, of course, Jamaican Caribbean. The food was fantastic, and with so many different choices, you didn’t have to eat at the same place twice unless you chose to.
We ate at the Himitsu-Asian Specialty restaurant a few times; the atmosphere and food was unforgettable. Another dining experience was the World Cafe, with buffet style cuisine. The first night we arrived, it was a themed night, with all you can eat lobster. What a treat! The World Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a large selection.
All rooms are junior suites, starting at over 550 sq. feet. They are very spacious with a separate sitting area as well as a large balcony with table and two chairs. Most rooms offer king or two queen beds. The bathrooms are roomy with separate shower and huge whirlpool tub. The bathroom has a bit of an odd set-up as there are no doors; it does have a curtain which separates the bathroom and bedroom, but that is it. The toilet area has its own room with a glass door which closes.
I was able to check out the junior suite swim-out rooms. These rooms are identical to the junior suite we had with the exception of the swim-out balcony. The junior suite is located on the lower level, then a set of stairs which lead right into the pool. These rooms are nice, but offer no privacy. Guests walking around the pool area can see directly into your balcony.
Secrets Resorts specializes in weddings. We witnesses at least ten weddings the week we were here. All the weddings were beautiful. The wedding set-ups were amazing and definitely designed to create an unforgettable day. Our honeymoon and destination wedding experts can assist with details about wedding packages and complimentary newlywed and anniversary packages, which include a bottle of wine, special turn down service, romantic breakfast in bed and 15% discount off spa treatments, check with.
The Secrets shore excursion desk can help with optional tours and activities while staying at the resort. We were able to take advantage of a few of these. We went horseback riding, a snorkeling catamaran tour and a jungle inner-tube ride. I loved the horseback riding, and we rode the horses in the surf, which was something I have always wanted to do! The highlight was the jungle inner-tube ride. We started off on large inner-tubes tied together, riding down a river on small rapids. We stopped along the way at a small swimming hole with huge waterfalls. We continued down the river drinking Jamaica Rum punch enjoying the jungle scenery. It was a relaxing and an incredible experience.
I would highly recommend Secrets Resorts to any honeymoon couple. Secrets Resort is considered a 4-star property. The accommodations, cuisine, staff, and resort were amazing, and I will definitely go back to another Secrets resorts to celebrate my one-year anniversary.
