Milan and the Dorchester Principe di Savoia
I began my adventure flying to Milan, staying at the Dorchester Principe di Savoia. From the second I stepped through the revolving door, the signature Acqua di Parma scent met my nostrils and I was entranced.
The extravagant foyer has beautiful: multi-colored marble floors, Roman-inspired columns, beautiful and rich flower bouquets, with floor-to-ceiling grandiose draperies that beckon you to walk through them. The theme carriers on throughout the hotel’s reception area, antique elevators and luxurious and spacious rooms. They have several room categories and newly renovated bathrooms that provide a welcome—although contrasting—modern twist in comparison to their uber formal bedrooms.
The food at the Principe — and most especially the breakfast — is incomparable to almost any hotel you will ever stay in. The breakfast at Acanto features a plethora of tables containing different juices, smoothies, yogurt, meats, cheese, eggs of all kinds, breads, jams, the list goes on—as does your waistband.
Later on that morning, I walked through Milan’s Galleria and made a quick stop at the Duomo to explore this world-renown ancient church. The rooftop terraces are littered with a beautiful forest of gothic pinnacles and spires. As you wander among them you catch breathtaking glimpses of the bustling square below and the city beyond. Truly a must-see! Viva Italy.
