Opulent Odyssey: A Luxurious Escape Across Continents

I embarked on a whirlwind journey in March to Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Turkey. It was a packed seven-day itinerary, but with Anantara Hotels and Turkish Airlines, the experience was nothing short of luxurious.

We started our adventure departing from LAX in Turkish Airlines’ business class. The cabin featured plush seating with footrests that doubled as storage, making for a comfortable flight. Turkish Airlines is known for its in-flight service, including its flying chefs who prepare meals right in the cabin, adding a touch of elegance to the journey.

Upon landing in Istanbul, the expansive business-class lounge awaited us. With two lounges featuring showers, sleeping areas, and a variety of dining options, it was a perfect place to refresh during our layover. After a 7-hour stop, we continued to Sri Lanka, arriving at a VIP welcome that included assistance with luggage and passport control—a true red-carpet experience.

Our first stop in Sri Lanka was the Anantara Peace Haven, located on a rugged, surf-friendly coastline. The resort exuded authenticity and luxury, with beachfront private villas ideal for honeymooners. One highlight was the Cinnamon Farm tour, where we learned about cinnamon production and enjoyed some of the best food on the trip.

Next, we flew to the Maldives, a short-hour flight.

In the overwater bungalows, some with plunge pools, were breathtaking, particularly at sunset or sunrise in the Maldives, we explored Anantara Veli, where three resorts cater to different types of travelers: adults-only, families, and private island exclusivity.

We then took a seaplane to Niyama Private Island a journey that itself was an adventure. The Anantara lounge at the seaplane terminal offered a relaxing space before our flight.

Niyama’s beach bungalows, complete with outdoor bathrooms and private plunge pools, were set against stunning turquoise waters. Despite some challenges with outdoor bathrooms, the setting was idyllic, especially with experiences like the dolphin cruise where we saw hundreds of dolphins.

Returning to Istanbul, we spent a night at the Kempinski, a beautifully redone Palace hotel offering spectacular views and sumptuous dining. Our brief morning tour of Istanbul included a visit to the underground cistern, a fascinating remnant of Roman engineering.

Istanbul’s new airport is a marvel, though its size means allowing plenty of time for connections. Turkish Airlines impressed again with their business class, featuring another flying chef who served delicious meals on our flight back.

Combining Sri Lanka’s rich culture with the Maldives’ pristine beaches, and wrapping up with Istanbul’s vibrant history, this trip highlighted the seamless luxury and diverse experiences Anantara Hotels and Turkish Airlines offer. This itinerary offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation for honeymooners and cultural enthusiasts alike.
