Our Honeymoon Team in Moorea – Part 2

Continuing our trip in Tahiti and French Polynesia, we transferred to the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa, where the hotel manager showed us to our over water bungalow rooms. The bungalows offer very spacious accommodations, with a sitting area and a unique feature: the coffee table has a glass top, which rolls back so you can feed the fish in the lagoon below. Think of it as living above the world’s largest aquarium. Large fish, including sharks, swim below you. Each room has an outdoor upper deck with chairs to enjoy the view. There is also a lower deck, which has a shower for rinsing off when you get out of the water. In the bathrooms are lovely, old fashioned, bear- claw bath tubs and large walk-in showers.

We enjoyed a fantastic dinner where we were wined, dined and treated like royalty.

The next day we had a very informative property tour with the General Manager, Olivier Larcher. Olivier is very proud of his hotel and involved in all aspects of its operation. The lawns are well manicured and well lit at night. We looked at the lovely garden bungalows, which have private plunge pools (which can be covered when families with young children are staying here).

There is plenty of play equipment and water toys, provided with a smile. There is also a Jacuzzi tub. The Hilton has a nice store for personal items and some fashionable clothing. Further, there is a great jewelry store with a large selection of black pearl specialties. The hotel lobby has a lot of seating and a free computer available for use by guests.

Next, we visited the Moorea Pearl Hotel, where we were taken on a tour and enjoyed lunch. We were able to review all the room categories here.

The over water bungalows are large, with lovely views. The rooms have a lot of dark wood that provided a very rich look. The garden rooms are also fine, and some have plunge pools. The open bar area is the gathering place and offered a comfortable ocean breeze. Our lunch here was over the top.

Moorea’s public pier is located adjacent to the hotel. The pier was our meeting point for the Eco-Tour Expedition, a boating tour that took us out on the ocean to see the islands from a different perspective. We found some dolphins and learned all about the environmental work being done in Tahiti.

We tried to go outside of the reef, into the open water, but a large wave come over the front of the boat.

The water was a little too choppy on this day and the boat was hit with a monster wave. Everyone got soaked, so the boat captain decided to drop us off at a hotel and arrange for a van to pick us up. The boat captain felt so remorseful. It was still a very exciting adventure, nonetheless. We headed back to our hotel, where we again enjoyed a great dinner.

We all got up early, packed our bags and prepared for another island transfer. After breakfast, we boarded our van and headed to the airport. The airport is very small, having only a few shops and the restrooms.

We boarded our aircraft and headed to Bora Bora.
