Peru’s Machu Picchu Rail Service Resumes Operations
If you are headed to or planning a Peru vacation and visting Machu Picchu, we’re pleased to advise that train service, which was disrupted by inclement weather recently, will resume operations April 1st. A bus-train combined service will be offered until restoration work is fully completed. The temporary service will require a 50 minute bus ride from the Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo Station) up to Piscacucho, followed by an 80 minute train ride to Machu Picchu train station (Aguas Calientes). The bus ride from Cusco city to Piscacucho will take 2.5 hours approximately.
Only Vistadome service will be available. The Hiram Bingham train will not be available before June 30th. The temporary arrangement will require travelers to walk about 600 feet from the bus station to the train. As a result, passengers are recommended to carry light luggage and have comfortable shoes and train protection.
