Thailand Adventure
After a long 20-hour flight, I arrived in Singapore with my colleague, Cara Kobzeff. Just thinking of the many hours we spent in our premium economy seats made me realize how important it is to have the extra leg room and the extra space. It’s one of those live and learn moments, where you can look back and see the extra value in paying more for a more comfortable travel experience. I strongly recommend getting at least the upgraded seats versus the standard economy seats on the long-haul flights, if business class isn’t an option. Our next flight departed the next morning to Krabi, Thailand.
We were transferred to our hotel in Krabi, Phulay Bay, which is a Ritz Carlton Reserve.
From the moment we arrived, we were transported to a place where time is treasured and nature inspires the senses.
We were met at the amazing resort pavilion entrance by management and introduced to our butler, Khun Patty. She took us by a golf cart to our resort pool villa with approximately 1141 square feet. The space included indoor and outdoor tubs, double king beds, and a gorgeous pool. And this was just the beginning!
Scale and imperial luxury are the defining traits of the villa, designed by Thai architect Lek Bunnag. Enormous spear-shaped lights create golden hues that bounce off the mirrors. Think Middle Eastern grandeur with nods to Thai style. The outdoor triangular soft furnishings continue the ‘Arabian nights’ feel. Even the central freestanding bath is a head-turner, cast from polished resin, imbedded with sparkling grains.
Set back from the ocean, the infinity pool has two levels, the higher one trickling into the one below. Take up your position on a timber sun lounger or covered day-bed. Throughout the day, staff move around discreetly, topping up iced water, offering refreshing fruit kebabs and polishing guests’ sunglasses. If you want something stronger than water, there’s even a swim-up bar, absolute peace and perfection spent by the pool staring at the beautiful Andaman Sea.
Our amazing butler, Khun Patty, picked us up every morning and took us to breakfast in her golf cart. She made sure we had umbrellas, water sandals, and her personal email address if we needed anything. She also arranged for us to go on great boat rides, with pick-up right from the beach in front of the resort.
We were taken by a beautiful, high-end speed boat to the Phi Phi islands.
This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Southeast Asia, apart from having dinner at Gaggan, the #1 restaurant in Asia. Perhaps we can make reservations for you during your trip!
