The Long Museum in Shanghai
Today I went to the new museum The Long Museum Shanghai with a client while on a trip to China.
It was very, very cool. It is basically the private collection of a billionaire couple who have decided to open up their collection to the public. They have pieces by the very top artists like Zhang Xiao Gang, whom people will recognize as being one of those famous ones that sell for millions of dollars overseas.
They also have a section on revolutionary era art (oil paintings mostly, so different from what you see in the Propaganda Poster Center) and traditional Chinese art.
There was not a single person there when we visited (Monday morning admittedly). It’s located in Pudong – so not that great location-wise, but probably only 15 minutes from the Park Hyatt and Four Seasons Pudong. I think it’s much better than the China Art Palace in terms of experience, as it is more compact and does not feel like a government museum. They are opening a Puxi branch soon too.
So far, they don’t have much in terms of explanations though (no audio tour). So for those people who are interested, I highly recommend having one of our art experts accompany them.
